Rutherford County, TN – Rutherford County Chief Information Officer Cody York has been appointed to the State of Tennessee Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory Council. 

Governor Bill Lee signed the Tennessee Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council Act, Senate Bill 2530/ House Bill 2325 on May 21, 2024 which created the AI Advisory Council. The Council’s mission is to provide a collaborative source of knowledge, expertise, and information sharing to advance the State of Tennessee’s ethical and beneficial use of AI technologies for all Tennesseans. The Council will recommend and support AI use and adoption policies and strategies. 

York serves as the Director of the Office of Information Technology, a position he has held since November 2019. He is also a member of the Tennessee Digital Government Summit Advisory Council. Before his current role, York served in various capacities with the Tennessee Secretary of State for over a decade.

York holds a Master of Arts from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts from Maryville College. His professional achievements include receiving the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award in 2019-2020 for his outstanding service and dedication.



“I am honored to serve on the Tennessee state government’s Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council,” York said. “This appointment reflects Rutherford County’s commitment to embracing innovative technologies that can enhance our community’s quality of life. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow council members to ensure that AI is developed and implemented in ways that are ethical, transparent, and beneficial to all Tennesseans.” 

In addition to his professional responsibilities, York is actively involved in the community as a pastor of the Reformed Fellowship Church and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rutherford County Library System.

“I’m proud of Cody York and his appointment to Governor Lee’s executive task force,” said Mayor Joe Carr.  “This is the second county director that has been appointed to help our great state and is indicative of the exceptional talent we have in Rutherford County.”
