When Is Apple Intelligence Coming Out?

Apple Intelligence, the company’s new artificial intelligence feature set coming to supported iPhone models, will roll out in stages beginning with the release of iOS 18.1 on October 28, according to recent reports.

The initial release will introduce a range of AI-powered capabilities for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 owners. Assuming that macOS Sequoia 15.1 and iPadOS 18.1 are released alongside iOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence will also become available on Apple silicon-powered Macs and iPads on October 28.

The first set of Apple Intelligence features include enhanced writing tools for rewriting, summarizing, and proofreading text, as well as a redesigned Siri interface. Users can also expect notification summaries for apps like Messages and Mail, and a new “Clean Up” tool in Photos that can remove unwanted elements from images using generative AI. For more information, check our Apple Intelligence guide.

However, the full suite of Apple Intelligence features will be deployed gradually across several iOS 18 point release updates:

  • iOS 18.1 (October 28): The first wave of features, including improved writing tools, notification summaries, and basic Siri enhancements.
  • iOS 18.2 (expected December): This update will bring more advanced capabilities, including ChatGPT support, Image Playground for AI-powered image editing, and Genmoji for creating custom emojis.
  • iOS 18.3 and 18.4 (early 2025): Subsequent updates will continue to expand Apple Intelligence, with the complete overhaul of Siri, promising more precise app control and personalized responses, slated for early 2025.

Apple is taking a measured approach to the rollout, likely in order to ensure a smooth user experience as it prepares its AI cloud servers for increased traffic.

Apple is also working on refining these features and addressing any potential bugs found in the latest beta versions before making them widely available to the general public. As the rollout progresses, Apple is also expected to add support for more languages.
