SAG-AFTRA negotiators say they have responded to the AMPTP’s “Last, Best & Final Offer,” noting that AI is one of “several essential items on which we still do not have an agreement.”

The context: Protections around artificial intelligence and the use of actors’ digital replicas have been part of SAG-AFTRA’s demands from the beginning of the strike. Striking actors on the picket lines are demanding studios ask for consent and compensate them fairly when it comes to digital replicas.

The quote: “If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all going to be in trouble. We are all going to be in jeopardy of being replaced by machines,” SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said at the news conference announcing the strike.

AMPTP response: An AMPTP spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee’s latest update. But the AMPTP has in the past characterized its offers around AI as “groundbreaking.”
